History

In 1989 some wine growers highly motivated by their love for their craft , reactivate viticulture  in Bizkaia , a region with a long history  in wine growing activity. In 1995 the  first plant was established in Muskiz  with a capacity for 25,000 liters and in 2002  the winery moved to Gernika , into the Biosphere Reserve of Urdaibai. (Unesco/ declaration in 1984)

The name of the winery  is coming from the Itsasmendi hills close to the Bizkaia gulf And our valuable 30ha vineyards is in full harmony with the land and nature.

The unique personality of  Itsasmendi  Winery  is coming from the mesoclimate and microclimate of each vineyard jointly with  the planification of the  management of the winemaking techniques. These vital practices and facts are the main factors used by the Denomination of Origin to grant their  unique seal of authentic  Txakoli.

In Itsasmendi we combine cutting-edge science with respect to traditional techniques and our project  is now firmly recognized in the history of the Txakoli
