Where do we plant our vines?

The development of the roots of the vines affects the character of the grape produced. For this reason, under our vinicultural philosophy, the selection of the plot is one of the fundamental aspects in the preparation of our wines.

The plant will live there for many years and a vineyard planted on terrain with a special aptitude will in time give us a grape with special features. Our latest plot chosen is located in Gernika, in the heart of the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve. Surrounded by small brooks full of biodiversity that divide this municipality of Muxika. Protected by a dense forest populated by ash, oak and acacia trees, in the foothills of the Cantabrian oak groves. This hillside oriented to the midday sun was home to a livestock farm for many years, although before the phylloxera it was a vineyard. Witness to this is a press, approximately 400 years old, at the highest part next to the Santos Txirenes chapel, that was used for many years to press grapes and apples from all the nearby farmhouses.

From April 2015, Hondarrabi zuri and Hondarrabi zuri zerratie plants, two Atlantic varieties with an earthy character will provide us with all of the peculiarities of this small ecosystem as the years go by, if we work with respect and tenderness.
